FRESHLY COMPOSED
The performer is a mediator — just like a brilliant museum guide. Their role is to help the audience step into the works, uncover their deeper meaning, learn to appreciate them more and more, and discover new composers along the way. “Freshly Composed” was created by Jérôme Pernoo with exactly that in mind: ten minutes to meet a composer… and maybe more, if there’s a connection.
The only requirement: the composer must perform. Even if they are not a trained performer, they must present their own work — either by playing it on the piano or alongside musician friends. These short sessions are optional and informal, taking place between concerts, so that curious listeners passing through can grasp both the artistic and human personality of the composer — and ask themselves: would I like to hear more?
If the answer is yes, they are invited to contribute to the funding of a future work. A direct relationship between audience and composer is born.
This project aims to rebuild the connection between composers and music lovers. Most of the young composers who took part in Freshly Composed were still below the radar of institutions and the media when they first participated. Today, the program has inspired nearly eighty world premieres.
